Car subscriptions in Portugal
One monthly payment. No long tie-ins. An independent, editorial guide to car subscription and flexible lease providers in Portugal.
Portugal's flexible car market has grown out of its strong rental and renting sectors.
Alongside traditional renting contracts of two to five years, several providers now offer monthly subscriptions (subscrição or aluguer mensal) that bundle insurance, maintenance, tyres, the annual circulation tax (IUC) and periodic inspection into a single fee.
SIXT+ and Drivalia's CarCloud offer month-by-month subscriptions after a 30-day minimum, KINTO runs flexible monthly rental of Toyota models for one to twelve months, and Arval Flex serves professionals and small businesses on terms of up to 24 months. Monthly prices for a small crossover typically sit between €500 and €750, and some offers include Via Verde toll tags, which makes motorway driving simpler.

Guide
You choose a car online or at a store, select a term and mileage plan, and provide your citizen card or passport, driving licence and proof of address; businesses add company registration details. Most providers require drivers aged 21 to 25 or over with at least one year's licence. Expect a deposit of one or two monthly payments or a card pre-authorisation, and sometimes a joining fee. Use is often limited to mainland Portugal. Fuel, tolls (unless Via Verde is covered by the plan) and parking are your own cost.
Business
Renting and flexible renting are popular with Portuguese companies and self-employed professionals. Autonomous taxation on company vehicle costs and VAT deductibility vary with the vehicle type, especially between combustion, hybrid and electric cars, so ask your certified accountant (contabilista certificado) how the rules apply.
Renting usually runs 24 to 60 months, while monthly rental or subscription lasts one to twelve months with more flexibility and a higher monthly price.
Yes, most subscriptions and monthly rentals include the annual circulation tax.
Most providers ask for proof of address and a tax number (NIF). Check requirements if you are newly arrived.
Some plans restrict use to mainland Portugal. Ask the provider before taking the car across the border.
