About Polestar

Polestar started in 1996 as a Swedish racing team, originally known as Flash Engineering, that competed with Volvo cars in touring car championships. Volvo later bought the business and used Polestar as its performance tuning arm, much as other manufacturers use in-house sport divisions. The name refers to the North Star, reflected in the brand's four-pointed logo.

In 2017 Volvo and its owner Geely relaunched Polestar as a standalone electric performance brand. Its first car was the limited-production Polestar 1 hybrid coupé, followed by the Polestar 2 fastback, which became its best-known model. The range has since expanded with the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 SUVs and the Polestar 5 four-door grand tourer. Polestar sells online and through a small network of retail spaces, and every current model is fully electric. Its cars share some technology with Volvo, but Polestar positions itself as a more performance- and design-led brand, and it has said it aims to produce a truly climate-neutral car in future.

Polestar on a car subscription

As an all-electric brand, Polestar suits drivers who want to try a premium EV on a short contract, and electric cars can carry low Benefit-in-Kind tax for company car users. The brand's online sales model also fits people comfortable arranging a car remotely. Check the real-world range against your regular trips, whether you have home or workplace charging, the mileage allowance, and the insurance excess on the more powerful dual-motor versions.

Polestar subscriptions: FAQs

Can I get a Polestar on a car subscription in the UK?

Yes. Polestar models are offered by a number of UK subscription and short-lease providers. Which models are available, and how quickly they can be delivered, changes over time.

Are all Polestar cars electric?

Every current Polestar model is fully electric. The only hybrid was the limited-run Polestar 1, which is no longer in production.

Do I need home charging for a Polestar subscription?

It is not essential, but home or workplace charging makes running an EV much easier and cheaper. If you will rely on public chargers, check where they are along your regular routes.
